Spring 2010 Semester Projects
Eco-Justice will be meeting and working with KU Environs weekly on Tuesdays, 5:30pm at the ECM. The meetings will switch each week between having larger group work and having smaller committee work meetings.
- Designing and building a new boardwalk, or “eco-walk”, with
environmentally friendly footings between 31st street and the Haskell Indian
Nations Campus.
- Working with Just Food and Daily Bread to pick-up leftover foods from
several local businesses, farmers, and even The Underground on campus.
- Once the weather is nice, it’ll be time to do some gardening in the
community garden at the ECM and plant a few fruit trees.
- Work to create a KU Student Farm on land just north of town with Kelly
Kindscher and others.
- Continue to set-up an organic garden out at the correctional facility.
- Work to set up a KU Orchard and talk with the KU Grounds team to place
more fruit and nut trees around campus.
- Participate in numerous Haskell-Baker wetlands clean-ups, and other
special events including Rallies and fund-raisers.
- Keep up with the current lawsuit against the South Lawrence Trafficway,
which we and others are co-litigants in.
- Plan various field trips to areas of concern around the state.
- Raise awareness and funding to support the Envirofit organization (
envirofit.org).
- Any others we come up with or team up with KU Environs on!
