Wine & Wetlands

Eco-Justice hosted this event to raise funds for projects such as the initial building plans/materials for a boardwalk in the Haskell Wetlands and to put towards the legal costs/donations to the pro-bono lawyer, Bob Eye, who is representing Eco-Justice along with the Wetland Preservation Organization at Haskell, KU Environs, the Kansas Sierra Club, etc. in the current lawsuit against the South Lawrence Trafficway.

We showcased local food and wine by working with Alma Creamery in Alma, KS (who also sells their cheese at several places here in town) and with the Wyldwood Cellars Winery in Paxico Kansas.

Members also brought together many local artists to have them donate pieces for the cause, which we then sold through a silent auction throughout the night.

Speakers such as Mike Caron, Lauren Ashman, and Patrick Freeland spoke throughout the night on a range of issues to raise awareness to the crowd.

It was a smashing success and we may look to hold another similar event.

Pictures will be posted soon.
